Major Eruption of the Raikoke Volcano (Russia)

A japanese satellite spotted a significant explosion of the Raikoke volcano that occurred without any warning. Raikoke is located in the Kuril Islands, Russia. The website VolcanoDiscovery.com reports an ash plume rising to 43,000 ft (13km) altitude, that in about 6 hours has already reached a length of about 500 km drifting eastwards.
